(Curriculum vitae)

Whenever I stray too far from my passion, life has a way of bringing me back. So it was with the timing of my first sabbatical. In 2002, after 25 years of teaching, I was a twice-tenured professor yearning for a new adventure. With no idea of what that might be, I spent my year's leave considering what I most loved doing. The answer was always the same: I love preparing nurses as scholars.

This came as no surprise. I'd gotten my start as a researcher studying how doctoral students become scholars. Over time, I discovered a set of best practices that eased their transition into the scholarly world. In the 5 years leading up to my sabbatical, an unforeseen opportunity turned my attention to another group in need. While heading a committee that conducted a campus-wide assessment of faculty scholarship, I saw first-hand how many of my colleagues lacked scholarly self-confidence, skills, and support.

So when K T H Consulting opened in 2004, my professional development programs readied nursing faculty to turn the amazing things they do everyday into scholarly products. Since then, the need for scholarly faculty development has grown even more pressing. Good educators are being forced, in the midst of a faculty shortage, to resign academic positions when they are unable to meet scholarly standards.

This we can change. In my vision for our future, nurse educators are welcomed into faculty groups that peer mentor each other's scholarly development from hire to retire. At K T H Consulting, I am creating this future with customized programs that tip faculty cultures toward collaborations that support and sustain everyone's scholarly success.

If you'd like to boost your faculty group's scholarly productivity, foster partnerships that enhance respect and diminish incivility, and contribute to increased success with retention, promotion and tenure reviews, contact me to learn more.
